Main research areas

• phytoplankton dynamics, function and diversity

• reservoirs limnology, phytoplankton blooms, diatom ecophysiology

• reservoir spatio-temporal heterogeneity

• analyses of long-term limnological datasets

• effects of disturbances on phytoplankton structure and composition

• interactions between phytoplankton and bacteria

• in situ application of modern fluorescence assays and image analysis

• photography – from microorganisms to aerial views of whole ecosystems

• knowledge dissemination and public communication

Membership in scientific organizations

Czech Limnological Society, Czech National Committee of LTER

Other activities

Science popularization, in particular via photography exhibitions and public presentations. Microphotographs of freshwater algae and cyanobacteria have been repeatedly published in numerous textbooks and journals. They also received various Czech and international awards (e.g. Olympus Bioscapes, Nikon Microworld).
